Over the years Scotland Yard and the BIPS (Blue Ice Protection Squad) have come up with some unique ways to protect the Royal Family from this danger. Some methods have been rather simple while others, like the creation of BIPS, have been quite elaborate.
Umbrellas: What appears to be a simple plastic umbrella is actually a reinforced, armored head covering. Her Majesty prefers to use this umbrella on days she is feeling particularly vulnerable. Notice in the picture the sun is shining and it isn't raining.
Motorcade: The Queen's newer Bentleys and Rolls Royces have all gone through the Royal Armoury for additonal, protective devices. This partial diagram shows upgrades areas with additional armor and heated panels (to melt any blue ice that hits the motorcade).
The Carriage: Photo: Royal Armourers roll away the carriage for blue ice protection upgrades.
